Chevy Silverado Bed Size Chart 2026: Complete Guide
Chevy Silverado bed size chart: 1500 short, standard and long beds (69.92, 79.44, 98.18 in), HD 6'9" and 8' beds, width, depth, volume and cab pairings.
The Chevy Silverado 1500 comes with three bed lengths, and the Silverado HD with two. GM's body builder drawings list inside floor lengths of 69.92 inches for the 1500's 5'8" short box, 79.44 inches for its 6'6" standard box and 98.18 inches for its 8' long box. The 2500 HD and 3500 HD boxes measure 82.24 inches (6'9") and 98.26 inches (8'). Chevrolet rates the 1500 long bed at 89.1 cubic feet and the HD bed at up to 83.5 cubic feet.
This chart collects GM's and Chevrolet's own figures for every Silverado bed, which cabs each one comes with, and the measurements that matter when you buy a bed cover, a rack or a load of plywood. We list only figures GM or Chevrolet publish; where a figure is not published, we say so rather than fill the gap.

The box names are GM's nominal labels. The floor lengths are measured from the front of the box to the inside of the closed tailgate, per GM's drawing, which is why each is a little longer than its label. Depth and the width between the wheel housings are the same for all three 1500 boxes, so length is the only dimension that changes.
GM's 2026 Silverado SSV specification guide, which covers the Crew Cab work truck, lists the same boxes in rounded form: 69.9 inches (short bed) and 79.4 inches (standard bed) at the floor, 22.4 inches of inside height and 71.4 inches of inside bed width.
Silverado HD bed size chart
| Silverado HD box | Inside floor length | Cargo volume |
|---|---|---|
| Standard (6'9") | 82.24 in | Up to 83.5 cu ft (max listed) |
| Long (8') | 98.26 in | Up to 83.5 cu ft (max listed) |
Sources: GM Upfitter Full Size C/K HD Pickups 2024 body builder drawing (floor length); Chevrolet.com 2026 Silverado HD (83.5 cu ft, maximum; per-box volume not listed).
The HD boxes are longer than the 1500 boxes in the standard size (82.24 inches against 79.44) and nearly the same in the long size (98.26 against 98.18). Chevrolet says the HD bed offers more cargo volume than any competitor, at 83.5 cubic feet. GM's HD body builder drawing gives further box dimensions in metric only for some measurements; we have listed only the figures GM prints in inches.
Which cab comes with which bed

For the 1500, Chevrolet's 2026 Max Trailering chart is the clearest primary record of the pairings, because it lists a rating for every cab, bed and drivetrain Chevrolet sells. It shows the Crew Cab with the short or standard bed in both 2WD and 4x4, the Double Cab with the standard bed, and the Regular Cab with the standard or long bed. The 8' box on a 1500 is therefore a Regular Cab bed. Every rating in that chart is in our Chevy Silverado 1500 towing capacity chart.
For the HD, Chevrolet's 2026 Silverado HD page states the pairings directly: the 2500 HD Crew Cab and Double Cab come with a standard or long bed, the 2500 HD Regular Cab with a long bed only, and the 3500 HD Crew Cab with a standard or long bed in single rear wheel (SRW) or dual rear wheel (DRW) form.
Overall truck length
Bed length sets most of the truck's overall length. Chevrolet's own ranges:
- 2026 Silverado 1500: 211 to 242 inches, depending on cab and bed.
- 2027 Silverado 1500 (next generation): 212.1 to 242.5 inches.
- 2026 Silverado 2500 HD and 3500 HD: 235.5 to 266 inches.
Chevrolet does not list the overall length of each 1500 configuration on these pages, so check the specific truck if you are measuring a garage. The 2027 Silverado 1500 is a new generation; its bed floor lengths had not been published on Chevrolet's 2027 page when we checked, so the 1500 box figures in this guide apply to the current C/K light-duty generation covered by GM's drawing.
Where published figures disagree
- Long box length. GM's body builder drawing lists 98.18 inches for the 1500's 8' box. Many dealer and third-party spec tables list 98.20 inches. We use GM's drawing.
- Rounded vs exact. GM's SSV guide rounds the short and standard floor lengths to 69.9 and 79.4 inches. These are the same boxes as the 69.92- and 79.44-inch figures in the body builder drawing, not different beds.
- Width. The SSV guide lists 71.4 inches of inside bed width; the body builder drawing does not print a single "width at floor" figure in inches. The 50.6-inch wheel-housing width appears in the drawing.
- 2026 vs 2027 length. Chevrolet's 2026 and 2027 pages give different overall-length ranges (211–242 vs 212.1–242.5 inches). Use the range for your model year.
Silverado vs GMC Sierra beds
The Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 share GM's C/K light-duty platform, and GM's upfitter site files their body builder information together as "Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra LD (1500)." The floor lengths, depth and wheel-housing width in GM's C/K drawing therefore apply to both trucks. The makers publish different supporting figures, though. GMC lists cargo volumes for all three Sierra boxes (62.9, 71.7 and 89.1 cubic feet), while Chevrolet's 2026 Silverado page lists only the long bed's 89.1 cubic feet. The GMC Sierra 1500 also pairs its boxes with cabs slightly differently: GMC's charts list no Crew Cab standard bed in 2WD, while Chevrolet's list one.
Bed features differ by brand as well. The Silverado offers the Multi-Flex Tailgate, while GMC's equivalent is the MultiPro Tailgate, and GMC also offers an available CarbonPro composite bed on the Sierra. Each brand lists its own trims and packages for these features, so check the window sticker of the exact truck rather than assuming a feature carries across brands. Accessories made for the box itself, such as covers and liners, are usually listed for both trucks, but always check the fitment notes. Our GMC Sierra bed size chart lists GMC's volume and payload figures for each box.
Buying a bed cover or liner
Bed accessories are sold by box length, not by truck name, so the first step is to confirm which box you have. A cover listed for a "5'8" bed" fits the 69.92-inch short box; one listed for a "6'6" bed" fits the 79.44-inch standard box; and an "8' bed" listing fits the 98.18-inch long box. On an HD, the standard box is 6'9", so a 1500 6'6" cover will not fit it.
Also check the generation. GM's light-duty drawing covers the C/K pickups from 2020, and Chevrolet describes the 2027 Silverado 1500 as a next-generation truck. Until Chevrolet publishes the 2027 box dimensions, do not assume that accessories for earlier trucks will fit a 2027.
Durabed and tailgate features
Chevrolet calls the Silverado's bed the Durabed and lists these features on its 2026 pages:
- Construction. Roll-formed high-strength steel on both the 1500 and HD.
- Tie-downs. 12 standard tie-downs rated at 500 lb per corner.
- Power. An available 120-volt outlet in the bed.
- Multi-Flex Tailgate. Available, with six functions: primary gate, primary gate load stop, easy access, full-width step, inner gate load stop and inner gate with work surface. Chevrolet says the full-width step can hold up to 375 lb.
- HD extras. Available integrated BedSteps for reaching the front of the bed, even with a fifth-wheel or gooseneck hitched, and a CornerStep rear bumper.
Feature availability depends on trim and package. To confirm what a specific truck has, use its window sticker; our guide to getting a window sticker by VIN explains how, and our guide to telling what trim your car is helps when a truck has been re-badged.
What fits in a Silverado bed
Two numbers decide most loads: the floor length and the width between the wheel housings. In the 1500, the 50.6-inch gap between the wheel housings is wider than a 48-inch sheet of plywood or drywall, so sheets lie flat. An 8-foot sheet is 96 inches long, which fits inside the closed tailgate only in the 8' boxes (98.18 inches on the 1500 and 98.26 inches on the HD). In the shorter boxes, drop the tailgate or carry the sheet on the wheel wells.
The HD's 6'9" box, at 82.24 inches, is almost 3 inches longer at the floor than the 1500's 6'6" box. That can matter for motorcycles, side-by-sides and anything that has to sit between the bulkhead and a closed tailgate. Always compare the item's length with the floor figure for your exact box, and check your state's rules for loads that overhang the tailgate.
Bed size, payload and towing
Bed volume and payload are different limits. Chevrolet lists a maximum available payload of 2,260 lb for the 2026 Silverado 1500, and unloaded weights from 4,410 to 5,710 lb; heavier configurations carry less. The payload for a specific truck is on its tire and loading information label. Our guide to the tire and loading information placard explains how to read it, and our guide to the door-jamb sticker covers the certification label beside it.
Bed length also changes towing ratings. Chevrolet's 2026 Max Trailering chart lists separate ratings for the short and standard bed of the same cab, engine and package; with the 5.3L V8 and Max Trailering Package, for example, a Crew Cab 2WD is rated at 11,300 lb with the short bed and 11,200 lb with the standard bed. A fifth-wheel or gooseneck hitch mounts in the bed over the rear axle, so the box length also sets the clearance between the cab and the trailer. Our Ford F-150 towing capacity chart applies the same configuration logic to Ford's truck.
How to identify your Silverado's bed
- Measure the floor. Measure from the inside of the front wall to the inside of the closed tailgate. On a 1500, about 70 inches is the short box, about 79 inches the standard box and about 98 inches the long box. On an HD, about 82 inches is the 6'9" box and about 98 inches the 8' box.
- Check the series. A 1500 and an HD with "standard" beds have different boxes, so accessories are not interchangeable between them.
- Check the cab. On a 1500, a Double Cab always has the standard box, and only a Regular Cab has the 8' box. On a 2500 HD, a Regular Cab always has the long box.
- Read the window sticker. It names the cab and box, which is the most reliable check before buying a cover or liner for a used truck.
Choosing a Silverado bed length
For a 1500, the decision usually follows the cab. Families who need the Crew Cab choose between the short and standard boxes; the standard box adds about 9.5 inches of floor at the cost of a longer truck. Buyers who regularly carry 8-foot material with the tailgate closed need the Regular Cab with the 8' box. For an HD, the 6'9" standard box is longer than any 1500 standard box, and the 8' box is available with every HD cab, including the Crew Cab, which the 1500 does not offer.
Whatever you choose, remember that volume is not capacity. A full bed of gravel or wet soil can exceed a half-ton truck's payload long before the bed looks full. Check the payload on the specific truck's label before you load it.
