2023 Jeep Wrangler colors chart with 12 swatches and paint codes from Black PX8 to Punk'n PE4

Short answer: the 2023 Jeep Wrangler was offered in 12 factory exterior colors. Nine carried over from 2022: Black, Bright White, Firecracker Red, Granite Crystal, High Velocity, Hydro Blue, Sarge Green, Silver Zynith and Sting-Gray. Earl was new and offered all year for $395, and Reign, a limited-run purple, could be ordered only through October 2022 for $495. Punk'n, a bright orange, came back later for a limited time for $695. Each has a three-character paint code such as PGP for Earl or PJF for High Velocity, and that code, not the name, is what you use to order touch-up paint.

The color list and prices come from Stellantis North America's own announcements: the July 13, 2022 release Jeep Brand Debuts Two New Wrangler Exterior Color Options for 2023 Model Year, the October 28, 2022 release Trick or Treat: Jeep Brand Brings Back Punk'n Exterior Paint Color to Wrangler, and the 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe fact sheet for Canada, all read on 2026-10-26. The paint codes come from the AkzoNobel 2023 Automotive Color Book, a refinish paint maker's reference, which tags each color with the models that use it. Jeep's press releases give names but not codes, so the two sources together give you the full chart.

Color chart: 2023 Jeep Wrangler colors and paint codes

Every color here is one Jeep listed for the 2023 Wrangler. The code column is the Stellantis sales code as printed first in AkzoNobel's book, followed by the alternate codes AkzoNobel prints with it. The last column is AkzoNobel's own name for the color, which is not always Jeep's.

A swatch on a screen is not a paint match. Monitors, printing and lighting all shift how a color looks, and the swatches above are illustrations. For a repair, the code on your vehicle and the paint supplier's formula for that code are what matter. Our guide on paint code vs color name covers why the code always wins.

What was new for 2023: Earl and Reign

Jeep announced both new colors on July 13, 2022, when 2023 Wrangler orders opened. Its release describes Earl as "a standout shade of gray with hints of aquamarine" that was "first showcased on the Gladiator Farout concept in 2020" and was making "its debut as an available exterior production color on the Wrangler lineup for the first time" for 2023. Jeep said Earl would be available "for the entire 2023 model year" on all Wrangler models, "including Sport, Sahara, Rubicon, 4xe and 392", at a U.S. MSRP of $395.

Reign was the limited one. Jeep wrote that "purple, last seen on the 2018 JK Wrangler, makes a comeback as Reign in the 2023 model year", priced at $495 and available "for a limited run". The release said Reign "can be ordered now through October", meaning October 2022. So a 2023 Wrangler in Reign is, by Jeep's own description, a limited-production vehicle, which is worth knowing if you are shopping used and a seller calls one rare.

Jeep Canada's 2023 Wrangler 4xe fact sheet adds one detail the U.S. release leaves out: under "Updated exterior colours" it lists "Earl (replaces Snazzberry)" and "Reign (limited edition)". So Snazzberry, a red, was dropped from the palette as Earl arrived.

Punk'n: the mid-year special-run color

On October 28, 2022, Jeep added a twelfth color. Its release says Punk'n "returns to Jeep Wrangler exterior color palette following a three-year hiatus" and is "a brilliant orange". It had been "originally offered on the Jeep Wrangler from the 2018 to 2020 model years". Jeep priced it at $695 and said it would be "offered for a limited time on all 2023 Wrangler models, including Sport, Sahara, Rubicon, 4xe and 392."

The same release calls Punk'n "the sixth special-run color available on the current generation of Wrangler, following such standout shades as Tuscadero, Gecko and Gobi". That is useful context for used-car listings. Those earlier special-run colors belong to other model years, so a listing that calls a 2023 Wrangler "Gobi" or "Gecko" deserves a check of the paint code before you rely on it.

Jeep's releases give prices only for these three colors. They do not list prices for the carry-over colors, and option pricing can change during a model year, so check a window sticker or build sheet for what a particular vehicle was charged.

The nine carry-over colors

Jeep's July 2022 release lists the colors Earl and Reign joined: "Firecracker Red, High Velocity, Hydro Blue, Sarge Green, Silver Zynith, Sting Gray, Granite Crystal, Black and Bright White". That is nine names in the sentence. With Earl, Reign and Punk'n added it gives twelve. The Canadian 4xe fact sheet lists the same eleven colors, before Punk'n, for the plug-in hybrid: "Black, Bright White, Earl (NEW), Firecracker Red, Granite Crystal, High Velocity, Hydro Blue, Reign (NEW, limited edition), Sarge Green, Silver Zynith, Sting Grey".

So the Wrangler 4xe was not limited to a smaller palette in 2023. The U.S. releases also name the 4xe and the 392 among the models offering Earl, Reign and Punk'n.

Some carry-over colors have a longer history in AkzoNobel's references. Bright White (PW7) and Black (PX8) are listed in AkzoNobel's book across many Stellantis models, from the 300 and Charger to Ram and Wrangler, while Earl and Reign appear only against Jeep models. High Velocity, the yellow, is tagged for Gladiator and Wrangler only.

Why paint suppliers use different names

If you order paint by name you can run into a surprise: AkzoNobel's book calls some of these colors something other than Jeep does. Three stand out in the chart above.

  • Sting-Gray is "Ceramic Grey" (PDN). AkzoNobel prints PDN as Ceramic Grey and tags it for many Stellantis models, including Wrangler and Gladiator.
  • Silver Zynith is "Atomic Silver" (PSE). The same PSE code is used across several brands, so the paint maker uses one name for all of them.
  • Black is "Black Crystal" (PX8). AkzoNobel lists PX8 with alternates PXN, DX8 and 601.

This is normal. A paint code describes a formula, and one formula can be sold under different marketing names on different vehicles. That is exactly why matching by code matters, and why our guide on what to do when a paint code doesn't match your car starts with the label, not the name.

How to read an AkzoNobel color book entry

If you go to the source yourself, each color in AkzoNobel's book is a small block with three lines. Earl's reads "Earl 2c", then "PGP / WGP / JP23:WGP", then "GLA.WRA." The first line is the color name with AkzoNobel's finish notation. The second line lists the codes: the P-code first, then alternate codes, then an entry with a brand prefix that the book uses as its own reference. The third line is the list of models that use the color, decoded by the book's model key, where GLA is Gladiator and WRA is Wrangler.

The finish notation varies between colors. Earl, Sarge Green, High Velocity, Firecracker Red, Bright White and Ceramic Grey are marked "2c". Hydro Blue and Punk'n are marked "P.2c", Granite Crystal "M.2c", and Reign "P.M.2c". The book does not print a legend for these marks in the pages we read, so we have not decoded them here. In practice they tell a painter that the colors are not all built the same way, and a painter will use the supplier's formula for the code rather than the label alone.

The model tags are useful when you are matching a part from a different vehicle. A Gladiator fender in Earl and a Wrangler door in Earl share code PGP and the same model tags, so they should be the same color. A part from a model the book does not tag with that code is a reason to check twice before you paint around it.

How to find the paint code on your 2023 Wrangler

Stellantis vehicles carry the paint code on a label, and the three-character code starting with P is the one most suppliers ask for. Where the label sits varies by model, and our paint code location by make guide covers where Jeep and other brands put it. Once you have it:

  1. Read the full code from the label. Copy it exactly, such as PGP or PBJ, rather than the color name.
  2. Check it against this chart. If the code on the label is not one of the twelve above, it may be a repaint, a different model year, or a code read wrongly. Confirm before ordering.
  3. Give the code to the paint supplier. Ask for the code and the year. Suppliers may hold more than one formula variant for the same code.
  4. Test on a hidden spot first. Paint ages, and a new mix may need blending into the panel next to the repair.

Our step-by-step guide on how to order touch-up paint by code goes through the ordering and test steps in more detail.

Colors that are not on the 2023 list

Paint lookup sites sometimes show colors against a model year that the maker never offered for it. One site we checked lists Gobi and Diamond Black for the 2023 Wrangler. Neither appears in Jeep's 2023 Wrangler announcements or the Canadian 4xe fact sheet, and AkzoNobel's 2023 book does not tag Diamond Black Crystal (PXJ) for Wrangler. That does not prove no 2023 Wrangler ever left a factory in those colors, but it does mean you should not rely on such a listing without the label. Our article on whether paint code lookup sites are accurate explains how these errors creep in.

The reverse also happens. AkzoNobel's 2023 book has a cover file dated 2021 but already tags Punk'n (PE4) for Wrangler, even though Jeep did not announce its return until October 2022. Paint books are updated over time, and a color can appear in a reference before or after its press release. When sources disagree, the label on the vehicle is the final word.

Worked examples

A used 2023 Wrangler listed as "Purple"

The only purple Jeep offered on the 2023 Wrangler was Reign, code PHT, available to order only through October 2022. Check the label for PHT. If the code is something else, the vehicle has been repainted or wrapped, or the color has been described loosely.

Touch-up for a gray 2023 Wrangler

There are three gray-family colors on the chart: Earl (PGP), Granite Crystal (PAU) and Sting-Gray (PDN). They are easy to mix up by eye, especially Earl, which Jeep describes as gray with hints of aquamarine. Order by the code from the label, not by "gray".

Matching a 2023 Gladiator

Jeep's December 2, 2022 release on the Gladiator lists the same nine carry-over colors plus Earl for the 2023 Gladiator. Reign and Punk'n are not on that list, although AkzoNobel's book does tag Punk'n (PE4) for Gladiator as well as Wrangler, which may reflect other model years. If your 2023 Gladiator's label shows PHT or PE4, check whether a body panel has been replaced or repainted.

Frequently asked questions

How many colors did the 2023 Jeep Wrangler come in?

What is the paint code for Earl on a Jeep Wrangler?

AkzoNobel's 2023 color book lists Earl as PGP, with alternate code WGP. Earl was new on the Wrangler for 2023 and cost $395.

Was Reign purple a limited color?

Yes. Jeep called Reign limited-production for the 2023 model year, priced it at $495 and said it could be ordered only through October 2022. Its paint code is PHT.

What is the High Velocity paint code?

High Velocity, the yellow, is PJF, with alternate code WJF in AkzoNobel's book, which tags it for the Gladiator and Wrangler.

Is Sting-Gray the same as Ceramic Grey?

They share paint code PDN. Jeep calls it Sting-Gray; AkzoNobel's color book lists PDN as Ceramic Grey. Order by the code to avoid confusion.

Was Punk'n available on the 2023 Wrangler 4xe?

Jeep said Punk'n was offered for a limited time on all 2023 Wrangler models, including Sport, Sahara, Rubicon, 4xe and 392, at $695.
